A mistake. I think everyone has experienced it at least once. While shopping, you say "Mommy!" and you get smacked on the butt from behind, only to find out it's a completely unknown lady! It happens to kids too. The atmosphere after you realize the mistake is irresistible. The lady who was mistaken has an incomplete reaction like "Oh my? Is that my child?" What a shame.
